Privacy Policy for The Threat Box

At The Threat Box, accessible from https://thethreatbox.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that are collected and recorded by The Threat Box and how we use it.

Log Files

The Threat Box follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. The information collected by log files includes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any personally identifiable information.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Canadian Privacy & Compliance (PIPEDA & Quebec Law 25)

As a Canadian-owned and operated platform, we are committed to protecting your personal information in strict compliance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec’s Law 25.

If you are a resident of Canada, you possess specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access & Rectification: You may request access to the personal information we hold about you and request corrections to any inaccuracies.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw your consent to data collection and processing at any time.
  • Right to De-indexation (Quebec Law 25): You have the right to request that we cease disseminating your personal information or de-index any hyperlink attached to your name.
  • Right to Data Portability: You may request a copy of your structured data in a commonly used, computerized format.

We employ a “privacy by default” approach. Non-essential tracking technologies and profiling are inactive unless express, opt-in consent is provided. Any data transfers outside of your province or Canada are subject to assessment to ensure equivalent security protections.

CASL Compliance (Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation)

The Threat Box strictly complies with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We do not send commercial electronic messages (CEMs) without your explicit or implied consent.

  • Any electronic communication from us (such as news alerts or updates) will provide a clear, functional, and immediate “Unsubscribe” mechanism.
  • We do not use automated software to harvest email addresses, and we will never share, sell, or rent your contact information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies and Web Beacons

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Like any other website, The Threat Box uses “cookies.” These cookies are used to store information, including visitors’ preferences and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users’ experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Google DoubleClick DART Cookie

Google is/will be one of the third-party vendors on our site. It also uses cookies, known as DART cookies, to serve ads to our site visitors based upon their visit to our site and other sites on the internet. However, visitors may choose to decline the use of DART cookies by visiting the Google ad and content network Privacy Policy at the following URL: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads

How long do we retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Advertising Partners Privacy Policies

Third-party ad servers or ad networks use technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on The Threat Box, which are sent directly to users’ browsers. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on websites that you visit.

Note that The Threat Box has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
